My site...my purpose

As a student of a newer degree program, I feel it is important to share with people what my degree (music therapy) is about. There has been music therapy to a certain extent since the 20th century, but it didn't begin to blossom into a profession until 1971 when the American Music Therapy Association (AMTA) was developed. Ever since then, music therapy has continued to grow into a profession that has capabilities many people are unaware about. The most frequently served populations include intellectually impaired, elderly, physically and behaviorally disabled, individuals with emotional problems, the developmentally disabled, people with neurological problems, and even patients in a medical and surgical setting can be helped through music therapy. Each of these categories include people with adverse disabilities. The populations may be served in hospitals, clinics, correctional facilities, and even from the clients home. My purpose of this site is to spread awareness on what music therapy is currently doing for us.
